Aloha from Hawaii! Actually, I'm back in Portland right now, but I was there for past 5 days. True to my nature, I was sure to take a break from the sun and sandy beaches to go karaoke-ing with the girls at this spot called Queen B on Queen Ave. Karaoke is a bit different in the 50th state. For one, locals pronounce it Cada-OK. Secondly, instead of waiting to be called to the stage, performers sit in little booths and the microphone is brought to your table. I had the honor of being the first singer on Friday evening, memorizing the crowd with the Bola-version of Sweet Caroline. Thanks so much to the 4 people who clapped - 3 were my friends, and the one guy at the video poker machine looked up for a moment to be kind. Why the difference in culture? The sit down booth compared to the mainland karaoke stage? I'm going to ponder this a bit more. In the mean time, I must give the Aloha State mad props on perhaps having the most karaoke bars per capita, and having the most amazing bar menus ever. Can anyone say grilled ahi, loco moco and steak plate?
Be sure to check me out tomorrow at 7pm on the BolaKaraoke show! www.kougradio.com
