I sang Rod Stewart's "Infatuation" at Alibi Lounge (Karaoke Bar) the other night. I had zero liquor in my system, I was catching a cold and my cousins who hate karaoke were with me. The KJ called me to the stage and I walked up to the stage just wanting to get it over with. As I took the mic and the familiar guitar intro began to play, a sweet spirit brushed over my hips... Suddenly, my curves began to gyrate, my shoulders began to shake and a smile came to my glossed lips.
"Infatuation", I sang...
A few people in the audience began to clap, my hips were now swinging (violently) from side to side.
"Infatuation," I sang...
That's what singing does. It takes a bad situation and turns it good. It turns lemons in to lemon drops with extra vodka. Karaoke can turn the biggest critic into a fame hungry Cher impersonator. Really - I've seen this happen. A wise man once said, "Never underestimate the power of Karaoke".
A wiser woman (me) once said, "Karaoke is not about singing well, it's about loving to sing."
BolaKaraoke
"Karaoke isn't about singing well, it's about loving to sing!" BolaKaraoke is your source for everything karaoke in PDX and beyond.

No more KJing at Grand Ave
Quick announcement that as of last Thursday I no longer host karaoke at Grand Cafe!!! Yes, my karaoke dj career was short lived, but let's just say the management and I didn't see eye to eye. No worries though, I will still be live on the radio every Wednesday Night at 7pm and can be found at local Karaoke bars across the PDX area! I'm still looking forward to using my karaoke talents as karaoke dj one day soon. I suppose the saga must continue...

Finally got a karaoke gig!
Yay! All my dreams have come true! Okay, maybe not all of them (world peace, win the lottery, solve world hunger), but one of them has! I am officially a Karaoke DJ. Starting this Thursday, I will be hosting karaoke at Grand Cafe from 9-2 am. If you're in the Portland area and you're 21, you should come by for a night of good drinks, good people and great songs! Come early so you can sing your heart out and help me celebrate my debut! Can't wait!

Turning 30!!
Yes. It's true BolaKaroake (that's me, Bola) has turned 30. Initially, I was freaked out, scared and dreading the day that my triple XXX would arrive. But honestly, I'm okay. I was talking to a friend whose also in her 30s and she said, "You know Bola, when I turned 30, I finally felt comfortable in my skin..." I've thought about this a lot and you know what? I believe in her experience! Whether it's real or not, I feel like I have been given new permission to be myself, to be successful, to follow my dreams and to live life. I've no doubt that this decade will be an amazing decade of love, pain and joy and that's life... More to come... In the mean time, keep listening to the new, improved BolaKaraoke!!

The fans have spoken... BolaKaraoke will spend more it's time playing your favorite R & B and Neo-Soul Jams! I am excited about our new show format that will include new and old R & B jams, b/c let's admit, they don't play enough R&B in the Northwest... Today we played Maxwell, All 4 One, Crisette Michelle, India Aire and so much more! No worries, karaoke will still be an underlying theme of this because karaoke is on my blood. Hope you enjoy the new format... Long live karaoke and R & B!!!
